Read the article if you still haven’t. Alex sounds off on Deep Purple, Oasis, Roots Manuva, The Kinks, and Townes Van Zandt (!!!) A lot of good bits to quote, too.
My favorite part has got to be the last sentence of it—

“I know my lyrics might be weird to some, but they’re not like that to me because I know where they come from— I know the secret.”

Coachella weekend is almost upon us folks. Heads up to everyone planning to watch the live stream— Arctic Monkeys are set to perform at the Coachella Stage, 6:30PM PST (convert timezones here).
Just like before, the three-day festival will be streamed worldwide via YouTube. For set times of all Weekend One performers, proceed to the official website. I’ll setup a chat party for this one, like when they played at Olympia. Will keep you guys posted.
P.S. Conan tonight - 11/10 Central!

Arctic Monkeys will be recording material for album #5 over the summer, as per Alex Turner.

…we are kind of into the idea of doing a record that is like “Evil Twin” and “R U Mine”.

Obviously catching up on missed news/updates. This is my favorite. I’d very much like that direction, thank you very much. (Full interview here, thanks duplexseven)

I have to make an effort not to take a moment to think about what I’m doing up there. That’s when you look down at your guitar and feel like it’s something you’ve never seen before. I try to avoid that moment. Like all these actions I’ll do now, it’s built in. I can’t fucking do the Macarena again tonight but if I don’t do it, I’ll fuck the next line up. There are a lot of words in our songs. I don’t want to make it seem like I have it hard or anything, but you start thinking about it too much and step out of that zone, you don’t know where you are. What is this? What is this place? You spend all day in your head and then for that one hour, you don’t. Especially the old songs, if I tried to sing a verse from one right now, I couldn’t do it. But in that moment, when I’m there and they’re all around me, playing, it’s built into me. I can do it.

April 21 is going to be a good day: R U Mine + Electricity in a limited ed 7” purple vinyl. This better be in your RSD pile.

Click here to see if you’re near a participating record shop. Also, note that Electricity will be the last song in the SIAS era. We’re almost at the end, and it’s starting to feel bittersweet.
