Arctic Monkeys - ¿R U Mine? - Live in Mexico City

Sweet video from the Palacio de los Deportes gig - 28 March 2012. Filmed by focuscreeps.

You and I, official music video

It is Arctic Death Ramps Monday for a reason. Another b-side video directed by the talented Focus Creeps. Go ahead, go nuts. Two videos in a month? This band… this band spoils us so.

Black Treacle, official music video

It’s here! As promised, the video of the band’s fourth single. Directed by the always amazing Focus Creeps. Reblog away. Comments? Reactions?

#08: Brick By Brick audio/video release

Well, it just came out of nowhere didn’t it? One minute we were all speculating on how the new album will sound like and the next—bam! An audio track was released with lyrics so sparse, almost ridiculous at first you wouldn’t think it was Turner-penned. Then add to that, a video— where sunshine and palm trees and beaches and a car cruising along the California coast takes center stage. Cut to a record being pressed. In-studio recording sessions as Alex and Matt sing the same words over and over again… brick by briiiiiiiiiick

My first thought was that we were being tricked, that it was some kind of ploy. What was going on? Who are these people?  Who was singing? (We soon found out it’s Matt). It was too… light for my tastes after the darkness that is Humbug. Can anyone say mindfuck?

We obsessed over the dates in the video, searching for clues at to what it really was. We talked about it. Some thought it was perfect, some of you can’t get it out of their heads, some needs time to process it all. Whatever each of our reactions were, at the end of the day, we were curious, excited.

As Focus Creeps put it, it is “a simple beacon to the promise of impending summer.” It was a promise. And I think it lived up to it. Now, it’s still not the best track lyrically but you can’t shake the fact that it’s catchy as fuck. It calls for you to thrash about, to sing-along.

Trivia: That logo on the vinyl? It’s Sheffield’s coat of arms. Also, we get a glimpse of who Alex Turner is through a couple of his personal belongings.

Suck It And See is NME’s second best video of the year. This is me confessing my love for Focus Creeps. [the entire list here - who the fuck is Lana del Rey? Edit: a quick google search fixed that for me. Ah.]

Evil Twin, in various 8mm caps. I really love the work of Focus Creeps.

Evil Twin, official music video

This is the long awaited announcement. Music video for a b-side. Yep. You read that right. An unusual move, first time really.. but fantastic nonetheless. I await the gifs. Directed by the awesome twosome, Focus Creeps

Focus Creeps talk briefly about shooting ‘Hellcat’

A few weeks ago, I was asked by Lomography International to suggest artists who still shoot video in Super 8 format to feature in their magazine. And because my brain is littered with everything Arctic Monkeys, my instant thought was Focus Creeps—the creative duo behind the boys’ nostalgic SIAS era videos (The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala, Suck It And See, etc). I think they deserved the press. They’re talented and I’ve enjoyed the videos they’ve made for this era so far.

So today the interview is up and here’s what they have to say about the video. It’s very brief. You can read the entire interview here if you’re into photography/lomography or 8mm videography.

On Arctic Monkeys’ The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala and Girls’ Lust for Life: Off and On Camera

You can go anywhere with the camera. We would climb into the back of the equipment truck with the model for ’The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala”, running from fans with the band, shooting the entire time. We determined early on that the song “Lust for Life” was exactly the length of 1 roll of film so we were able to shoot each person performing the song in their bedroom for exactly the length of a roll. Each person got one take. Some would get more “into it” than others, but they all share a true from-the-hip sincerity.

New video, new single: Suck It And See, out 31 October 2011. Video directed by Focus Creeps, single b-side is called ‘Evil Twin’

I’m late to the party (I hate going out) but go ahead, react away. What do you think?

P.S. Matt Helders is so badass.
